SPECIAL EVENTS COMMITTEE

GAWL's Special Events Committee is pleased to host GAWL's signature events.  These events punctuate the year with unforgettable opportunities for large-scale networking and community-building.

Annual Dinner

GAWL's 2009 Annual Dinner will be held on May 5, 2009 at Maggiano’s Buckhead in Atlanta, Georgia.  The theme of this year’s Annual Dinner will be to honor our community leaders - those members who have offered their services or donated their time to community organizations.

The Annual Dinner is a great opportunity to socialize and network with fellow GAWL members over a glass of wine and a delicious three-course meal.  Members often linger after the program for more networking opportunities.  As with all GAWL events, make sure you bring your business cards.

At the Annual Dinner, GAWL announces the  winner of the Kathleen Kessler Award, an award given in honor of the late Kathleen Kessler, an Atlanta attorney who was tragically killed in the 1996 Valujet Airlines crash in Florida.   The Kathleen Kessler Award is GAWL's most prestigious award and is given each year to a female attorney who exhibits a long-term commitment to the practice of law and to the legal community.  To see the list of award recipients, please click here.

Other annual GAWL awards, such as the Visionary Award, the Volunteer Award, and the Outstanding Law Student Awards also are announced at the Annual Dinner.  In addition, the GAWL Foundation scholarship recipients and the members of Leadership Academy class are recognized.  Last, but not least, GAWL's next Board will be sworn in at the conclusion of the dinner.

Formal invitations with additional information are mailed to all GAWL members, but sponsors and friends also may attend.

2008 Mid-Year Meeting

The 2008 "Women Negotiating in Business" was held on November 18th at the offices of GAWL’s signature sponsor, Alston & Bird.   Nearly seventy women attorneys, accountants, financial planners, and other professionals enjoyed quality continuing education and premiere networking.  The Mid-Year Meeting focused on negotiating, diversity, flexibility and other topics important to women in business.

The Keynote Speaker at the Mid-Year Meeting was Deborah Epstein Henry, the founder and President of Flex-Time Lawyers LLC, a national consulting firm advising law firms, corporations and lawyers on work/life balance and the retention and promotion of women attorneys.   Henry spoke about work life/balance issues and led a panel discussion among Sylvia A. Smyth, Principal with Deloitte Financial Advisory Services, L.L.P., Maria Goldsholl, COO of MomCorps, Dorian S. Denburg, General Attorney with AT&T South, and Diane L. Prucino, Co-Managing Partner in charge of attorney resources with Kilpatrick Stockton, LLP.

We hope to see you next time.
