U.S. Supreme Court

May 1-3,  2010 U.S. SUPREME COURT ADMISSIONS TRIP

Together with the South Carolina Women Lawyers Association, GAWL is sponsoring an exciting trip to Washington, D.C. for the admission of our members to the Bar of the United States Supreme Court.

The date for admission for our group is Monday, May 3, 2010. You may choose to spend the weekend enjoying our nation’s capital or fly in the night before the swearing in ceremony.  We have a block of rooms reserved at The Phoenix Park Hotel from Saturday afternoon, May 1, 2010 to the morning of the ceremony.  We will have dinner near the White House at the historic Old Ebbitt Grill Saturday night and enjoy a reception at the Hotel Sunday night, followed by breakfast at the Supreme Court Café just before the ceremony.

Estimated costs include a $75 application fee, a $200 swearing in fee, $195 for group meals and reception, lodging ($209/single, $239/double, $269/triple, $299/quad) and transportation.
GAWL is allotted 25 slots. Attendees must be members of GAWL and a member of the state’s highest court for a period of three years prior to admission. The deadline for submitting applications (together with the required $75 deposit) is January 4, 2010.  For now, you need only express an interest in attending to Jessica Harper at jharper@brawwlaw.com.

The trip will be preceded by several events designed to allow us to get to know our traveling companions over the next year. SCWLA has invited GAWL members to its September 30, 2009 through October 2, 2009 conference in Charleston, South Carolina, with accommodations at the Francis Marion Hotel.  Speakers at the conference will include Justice Sandra Day O’Connor and Seventh Circuit Judge Diane Wood. If you are interested in attending the conference, please let Jessica know.
